Barriers to Adopting Lean Methodology in the Portuguese Construction Industry

The Lean methodology allows for the streamlining of management and production systems to reduce costs. In case construction sector, goal is optimize processes, waste, increase product quality, client satisfaction. These have been areas where construction, as a struggling deliver substantial results. Despite potential benefits associated with approaches, there has significant resistance from industry. main objective this research identify barriers applying in Portuguese sector. This will contribute understanding why not gaining traction among stakeholders help improvement replicable similar markets. Initially, were identified based on comprehensive literature review, those evaluated their importance using survey responded by sector professionals. Based survey’s results, 15 considered critical. Additionally, combined ISM model MICMAC analysis was developed study relations between these driving dependence power each one critical barriers. results obtained show that are lack support commitment top management, organizational communication, communication transparency stakeholders, unsuitable structures, adequate awareness understanding, change, employees’ aversion change fear new procedures.
